Annotation
The article deals with the main issues of the future primary school teacher’s activity on the formation of reading literacy of primary school children. A detailed description of reading literacy as a basic skill of functional literacy is given. The relevance of the possession of the skill of forming reading skills in younger schoolchildren for primary school teachers is substantiated. The main approaches to the organization of primary school teachers’ work on the formation of functional literacy of students are explained.
Purpose. The purpose of the article is to describe the basics of the formation of reading literacy as a basic skill of functional literacy.
Methodology and methods. Methodology and methods. The methodological basis of the article is the works of Gaplyanova G. F., Panova N. P., Matveenko T.V. Methods:retrospective analysis of scientific and pedagogical literature; system-functional analysis of pedagogical experience.
The main results of the study. The semantic content of the concept of reading literacy as a basic skill of functional literacy, as well as ways of its formation in teaching primary school children, is revealed.
Scientific novelty. The essence of the implementation of approaches to the formation of functional literacy of younger schoolchildren through the development of specific reading skills, as well as the importance of training future primary school teachers to perform this function, is concretized.
Practical relevance. The article describes methods and approaches that will help teachers develop students’ skills in meaningful reading, text analysis and critical thinking. It is emphasized that, taking into account the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard, reading literacy becomes an integral part of the educational process and the basis
for further development of other subjects and types of literacy. The possibilities of developing creative abilities and independence of students through effective practices of reading and working with texts are also discussed.
